Dear Mr. Longfellow

I hope to have the pleasure of meeting you on Wednesday. It will be a pleasure, for like most Englishwomen of my generation, I have been fond of you half my life. —

I meant to have called after your daughters & tried to persuade them to come & see me here — for I am a through "country lady" — & scarcely ever join in London society. But my husband tells me it is perfectly hopeless either to get you & them here — or to find you if I called — will they therefore accept the intention? & my hope to be more fortunate when you return for the Continent? —

And believe me — in the name of innumerable Englishwomen to whom you have done good without end —

Yours gratefully & warmly DMCraik. —
