<l>HERE comes the thief</l>
<l>Men nickname Time,</l>
<l>Oh, hide you, leaf,</l>
<l>And hide you, rhyme.</l>
<l>Leaf, he would take you</l>
<l>And leave you rust.</l>
<l>Rhyme, he would flake you</l>
<l>With spotted dust.</l>
<l>Scurry to cover,</l>
<l>Delicate maid</l>
<l>And serious lover.</l>
<l>Girl, bind the braid</l>
<l>Of your burning hair;</l>
<l>He has an eye</l>
<l>For the lusciously fair</l>
<l>Who passes by.</l>
<l>O lover, hide-</l>
<l>Who comes to plunder</l>
<l>Has the crafty stride</l>
<l>Of unheard thunder.</l>
<l>Quick -lest he snatch,</l>
<l>In his grave need,</l>
<l>And sift and match,</l>
<l>Then sow like seed</l>
<l>Your love's sweet grief</l>
<l>On the backward air,</l>
<l>With the rhyme and the leaf</l>
<l>And the maiden's hair.</l>
