In doing this project, I hope to adhere to two different audiences. My first audience
is hardcore Duke fans. My second audience is those individuals who are not knowledgeable
about the game of basketball and what the power of sports can do for an individual.
Additionally, I hope to show my love for Duke's basketball program while also educating
others who may not be familiar with the sport. I thought the best way to do this was
through this speech that was given to the 2015 championship team by President Obama. The
speech provides a history of the culture, program, and also does a wonderful job of
showcasing the bond that the team shared throughout the season.

I was introduced to the sport of basketball by my Dad. I first started playing in my in my driveway with my Dad
when I was about 5 years old. I learned all the rules and technicalities at a very fast
pace because I played regularly, and my father was always willing to be a teacher of the
game. My first basketball game in middle school is a memory that I will cherish forever.
Seeing all my family at the game made me feel so special. Something about seeing this
ball go in the hoop was an indescribable feeling. To this day, the feeling never ceases
to vanish. Not surprisingly, my Dad grew up a Duke fan, which is how I become so
passionate about their basketball program. Not only has basketball help create a strong
bond with my family, it has also generated many more positive elements in life. First,
it has enabled me to become stronger and faster. Specifically, my stamina has become
strengthened because I am so accustomed to running up and down the court. Secondly,
basketball has allowed me to make some great friends over the years. Whether I am
playing in my hometown or here at the University of New Haven, I have met most of my
best friends by playing basketball. Thirdly, basketball has taught me some extremely
valuable life lessons that extend way beyond the court. For example, I have learned that
no sports team is successful without working in unison to reach a common goal. In
conclusion, I would not be the person I am today if the sport of basketball was not a
part of my life. Being that this speech was given at the White House by President Obama,
there is a video that is available through Youtube. So, I would like to make this link
available. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfhmzwmFoiE
