Wednesday Dear Sir

I greatly like Douglas. – It is the best setting yet. – Still, may I be allowed a humble criticism. – “Douglas-Douglas” – is a sharp out-cry – always of pain – & the interval which to my mind should be an ascending interval – & a repetition of the same notes – the accidental flats I like extremely. – In the rhythm of “As I lay” – in last verse, I would make the crotchet G into two quavers & come down for “lay” after an E crotchet. – And my notion was that it ended quite softly – in a burst of weeping – not ff fortississimo at all. –

Pardon this & believe in my warm appreciation.

Yours sincerely, DMC. –
