Doune Terrace My dear Sir

Many thanks for your letter. it is a good thing to say “no” kindly.

May I ask of you one favor favour more? – that you will send one line by return of post (if possible) to say whether I am to consider your decision as fixed – or in any way depending on the success of the Ogilvies? – As, in the former case, I should wish immediately to try some other publisher.

Will you, in either case kindly keep the M. S. manuscript until my return home which will be in about ten days –

Believe me, dear Sir Very sincerely yrs yours DMMulock –

I feel all the justice of your observation about delaying this little book until the novel has appeared – but unforuntately we poor authors can seldom wait. However I will consider over your kind hint – in what ever hands the book may fall –
