                    Craik’s spelling, punctuation, underlining, superscripts, abbreviations, additions
                    and deletions are retained, except for words which are hyphenated at the end of a
                    line, which we have silently emended. Where Craik uses a non-standard spelling, we
                    have encoded both her spelling and the standard Oxford English Dictionary spelling to
                    faciliate searching. The long s is not encoded.</p>

                <p>I cannot think of a better title than “I don’t care – or – <title
                        corresp="CraikSiteIndex.xml#HowToWinLove">Rhoda’s Lesson</title> – ” and yet
                    I do not quite like this – Could not the title be left till the proofs come – as
                    a good title is so important. </p>
                <p>I do not care on second thoughts – about having my name with the tale – so you
                    can put “by the author of &amp;c – </p>
                <p>But will you put in this – “Dedicated to my dear little friends, <persName
                        ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#Frances">Frances</persName>, <persName
                        ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#Betty">Betty</persName>, &amp; <persName
                        ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#Jeannie">Jeannie</persName> – ” I do this not only
                    to please myself – but because children <add place="above">readers</add> take an
                    interest in other real children – besides the fictitious ones of a story – </p>
                <p>I do hope the sketch will be moderately good as I hate bad Art even in a
                    baby-book.</p>
                <p>I forgot to tell you that I can get a good many reviews of it – having a
                    tolerable connection among papers &amp; periodicals.</p>

I cannot think of a better title than “I don’t care – or – Rhoda’s Lesson – ” and yet I do not quite like this – Could not the title be left till the proofs come – as a good title is so important.

I do not care on second thoughts – about having my name with the tale – so you can put “by the author of &c –

But will you put in this – “Dedicated to my dear little friends, Frances, Betty, & Jeannie – ” I do this not only to please myself – but because children readers take an interest in other real children – besides the fictitious ones of a story –

I do hope the sketch will be moderately good as I hate bad Art even in a baby-book.

I forgot to tell you that I can get a good many reviews of it – having a tolerable connection among papers & periodicals.
