                        ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#Orrinsmith">Harvey Smith</persName></p>
                <p><persName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#HarralAlfred">Mr. Alfred Harral</persName> came
                    back to <placeName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#Geelong">Geelong</placeName>, I
                    believe – Each of the gold-diggings party gained <measure type="currency"
                        >£50</measure> – after expenses – <rs type="person"
                        ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#MulockBen">my brother</rs> says – So I conclude
                        <persName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#HarralAlfred">Mr. A. Harral</persName> got
                    the same – </p>
                <p><persName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#HarralAlfred">He</persName> &amp; <persName
                        ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#MulockBen">Ben</persName> were intending to return
                    to the digging alone together – starting as <date when="1853-01">last
                        January</date> – to remain an indefinite time. <persName

Craik’s spelling, punctuation, underlining, superscripts, abbreviations, additions and deletions are retained, except for words which are hyphenated at the end of a line, which we have silently emended. Where Craik uses a non-standard spelling, we have encoded both her spelling and the standard Oxford English Dictionary spelling to facilitate searching. The long s is not encoded.

Dear Mr. Harral

Three weeks since I sent a message to your mother by Harvey Smith

Mr. Alfred Harral came back to Geelong, I believe – Each of the gold-diggings party gained £50 – after expenses – my brother says – So I conclude Mr. A. Harral got the same –

He & Ben were intending to return to the digging alone together – starting as last January – to remain an indefinite time. Ben saying nothing more about your brother.
