                    hyphenated at the end of a line, which we have silently emended. Where Craik
                    uses a non-standard spelling, we have encoded both her spelling and the standard
                    Oxford English Dictionary spelling to facilitate searching. The long s is not

                <p>My last letter turned out a sort of congratulation — this came rather late — but
                    not the less with warm sincerity.</p>
                <p> My benison on the wee thing — &amp; may she grow up to be to you both the
                    blessing &amp; comfort that an eldest daughter can be. May she have a happy life
                    full of love — Which to a woman is beyond all greatness!</p>
                <p>We must certainly project an alliance between <persName

I look daily for Miss Lamb — who first gave me news of this advent. April 6th 1851.
