My Darling,
I thought there might not be any mail today because of the Labor Day Holiday but imagine
how happy and surprised I was when the post man came and handed me the package with your
picture in together with two of your cards and two letters. I opened the picture first
and oh my sweet it brought you right here into the room with me. I had to catch my
breath, because it was so real. As it stands before me now, sweet, I look up as I write
and your eyes are telling me all the things I want to hear. That was always the way you
looked when you told me you loved me, with your eyes so steady and true. You know Cy,
that its the only big protrait I have of you and it came out so good. What do you mean
by saying the photograph couldn't make something out of nothing, if some of the fellow
whose pictures he takes were

as nice looking as you he'd never have to like to have a regular picture
mde made for you. I'd have it done in Macy's just like
the last one because that one turned out pretty good. It would be a picture of me as I
am today. Wouldn't you like one like that? But whatever one you want I'll send to
you.
You'll be getting your first pay check this week and so will I. It will probably come to
about $21.00 and some cents after all the deductions are made. That will be the biggest
check I

. I'm going to have our bank account transferred from the country to the city
and I'll be able to put in a few dollars. Will that change be alright with you? Cy, my
darling, you don't need to send me any money. Keep it for yourself, you get little
enough as it is and there's always some things you can use as when you go to Denver you
might want to go to a show and have a bite to eat. I want you have as

any other kind of picture but one that shows the way I always remeber you. Now I'll have
two pictures of you guarding me. I'll have this one on the dresser at the foot of my bed
so that as soon as I open my eyes I'll see you and at night I'll be able to look at you
while I'm dreaming. I have that other one on the wall at the head of my bed, you

glass over it as I'll have it ruined in no time.
Sweet, you asked for that other photo of mine and I'd like to tell you what I have in
mind. This is what I've been planning to do and was going to do next Wednesday on my day
off but if you say you'd rather have the other I'll be glad to send it to you. Let me
explain fully now. You see Cy, I was thinking after I sent you those small pictures that
they weren't so good and I'd

I still haven't caught on to the job thoroughly yetAt some point between July and
September, Tessie moved from Bound Brook, New Jersey, back to her family's home in
New York City. She would then stay there for the duration of Cy's deployment..
It's not so easy to remember all the different prices and colors of the dresses, but the
rest of it isn't hard. You see, Cy, the senior stock girl was out on vacation, she'll be
in tomorrow, so that I think I was doing a little of everyone's work. About five
different girls were showing me what to do and each told me some-thing different. I
guess I'll know exactly what I am supposed to do this week. There wont be nothing to it
as soon as I know what's what. You'd be surprised when you see how few fellows there
are. They have big, hefty girls doing their work now. To qualify you have to be from
21-35 in age, weigh 125 and be 5'5" and also be able to move heavy things. For a while I
was worried that they might have called me for something like that but I guess the age
limit is what kept me out. But if I were called for that I wouldn't have taken it.
You can easily sprain yourself when you have to push those heavy trucks. That's not for
me, I don't mind working hard but I won't taket the risk of getting hurt. By the way
sweet, every Wednesday is my day off, that's not so bad because it gives me a little
breathing space in the middle of the week. I won't have it off this week because of
todays
today's
holiday though. How about you, when is your day off?
Pappa is alright except for being tired after a hard day's work. When he comes home he
tells me all about what happened at work just as you used to tell me about everything
that happened at the shop. Oh sweet, I miss the talks we had so much. Mary was here the
other day, she stayed overnight, things are going a little better with them now.
Although she had some kind of a boil on her voice and Stephe got a splinter in his eye,m
they're alright now. Tomorrow she'll be moving to Jersey to a very nice house in the
suburbs of North Arlington. I hope they'll have a chance to get back on their feet
again.
Mamma is still in the country with the children. She is trying to get as much as
possible out of it before the winter begins. As yet I don't know exactly when she's
coming back but it will probably be next week sometime. Pappa went out there over the
weekend and I was home alone again. After I went to church in the morning I came home
and had a bite to eat, then I decided to pay a visit to Sophie because I hadn't seen her
the last time. I walked up to her place but there was no one home as I walked back home
through the park and it was such a nice day that I sat down and got some sunshine. After
a while I went home and started to listen to the radio. Then I shut the radio off and
thought of you my sweet, I was wondering what you were doing and just thinking of whay
we're going to do soon. Memories came back to me and I was lost in reveries for a long
time. My husband, I love you, with all my heart.
Please take care of yourself and see if you can get rid of that cold.
See you tonight, Cy,
As ever,
Yours,
Tess
