My darling
child
I was at the Collets all yesterday – & found your letter when
I came home – & sent word on to Miss Alderman at the
Western's –
– She thinks they reach Rothesay today – So if you get a P.C –
for the sister to meet her at the Ivanhoe – you will be able
to show her the cottage – & all hospitality. – I know you will manage all quite
well. All your labours have been most satisfactory. – You shall certainly go on
keeping house! & being mistress. – & I'll be a visitor – for I am awfully
tired –
– I leave tomorrow at 8.13 – a.m – meet papa at King's Cross – & we sleep at
Greenhill Terrace – go to Lovells on
Saturday – To George Square to afternoon tea &
Duddingston to late tea on Sunday – & Monday morning oh
be joyful! – we shall start west – & come in by the
Ivanhoe. – I never was so thankful to get away for a rest. – Dear
Aunt Annie still goes as
well. – Lady Caroline died on Tuesday morning – I am going to
see Rosalind this evening after I have done my packing. – I
think I have got through without forgetting anything – but without
you it has been a serious business. – No Mrs.
Keene – no Bertha – no
Jessie – I never felt so forlorn. But
it will soon be over –
– & I shall see my
child again – & be content –
– Love to Margery. We
will not talk of the 4th July – till it comes – I went to the
Harris's – but Kath is quite impossible. – There
has been no word from the Pikes. – I am glad
you asked Mary Stoddart &
Ellen – to tea – Thank Miss
Stoddart for all kindness – Miss
Alderman will need to see the cottage first –
her mother is such an invalid that I doubt if they will come
to Arran after all: –
Ever your loving
Mother
