            <p>Was tired or rather lazy and did not fancy getting up for <time when="08:00:00">8
               o'clock</time>
               <label>Mass</label>. <persName ref="#Craven01">Father</persName> &amp; <persName>Mother</persName> went &amp; I
               followed. Received <label type="religious">communion</label>. Tried to study some <label
                  type="class" ana="#bostoncollege">Astronomy</label>. <persName>N. S. Ray</persName> came to
               speak about the silver I had ordered and I paid him. Bundle in B. O. came from <persName>Uncle
                  George</persName>. Called on <persName>Mrs. Harris</persName> &amp; went to visit
               <persName>Fr. Coppinger</persName> in <orgName>St. Augustines</orgName>. Had confidential talk
               in regard to vocation. He offered help. Made up some accounts &amp; studied all eve.
               <persName>Johnie Duggan</persName> did not look well to-day. Rec'd word that <persName>Lila
                  Kinan</persName> was improving.</p>

         </opener>
            <p>Very sleepy this morning when I rolled out at <time when="08:45:00">8:45</time>. Late hours
               surely do tell on one. Well, I studied some <label type="class" ana="#bostoncollege"
                  >Astronomy</label> and was much interested in the chapter on the Moon &amp; the Sun &amp;
               their eclipses. Went in town and secured a job for Saturdays at <placeName>the little
                  haberdashery</placeName> at the <placeName>North Station</placeName>.
               <persName>Griffin</persName> of <orgName>Shumans'</orgName> was instrumental in getting me the
               job through <persName>Mr. Wheeler</persName> of <orgName>Cleveland &amp; Cheever
                  Co.</orgName></p>
            <p>I brought home the silver which I am giving to <persName>the folks</persName> for their
               <label>25th anniversary</label> which comes <date when="1917-04-17"><choice>
                  <abbr>Apr</abbr>
                  <expan>April</expan>
               </choice> 17</date>.</p>
            <p>Was surprised to receive a <label>New Year's</label> card from <persName>M. E. W.</persName>
               with who I expected I was <abbr>N. S.</abbr></p>
            <p>Did a lot of studying to-night with hopes that I will not be examined to-morrow.</p>

            P. M. Very wet snow. Large flakes, bad walking.

            <p>Classes reopened for last few weeks of the first term. I feared that the professors would
               call for the <label>examinations</label> which I missed the week of <date when="1917-12-18"
                  >12/18/</date>. They did not. Car service has not improved by the vacation we had. I lost my
               mocha gloves on the car at <placeName>Park St.</placeName> Did some writing at the
               <orgName>Globe</orgName>.</p>
            <p>Did a lot of studying to-night. Wrote a story for <orgName>the Record</orgName> but did not
               succeed in getting a picture of the <placeName>Faculty Building</placeName> to go with it. Woke
               up very late.</p>
            <p><persName>Johnie</persName> brought home a new half dollar coin.</p>

            <p>Was up early this morning, but not early enough to get in to the <orgName>Record</orgName> in
               time to get out to the college, so I went straight out to classes.</p>
            
            <p> Everything sailed along smoothly until <persName>Fr. Corrigan</persName> pulled a little
               test in the <label type="class" ana="#bostoncollege">History of Philosophy</label> class. </p>
            <p> Had a little run in with <persName>Fred Foley</persName> over the <label type="class"
               ana="#bostoncollege">chemistry</label> work. I fear that there is going to be a terrible crash
               at the Mid Year's marks. </p>
            <p> Big preparations for a reception at the <placeName>college</placeName> to-night. I received
               advance news that the <persName>Rector</persName> was going to be presented with $2,500. </p>
            <p> Had a long talk with <persName>Mr. Frish</persName> of <orgName>Read's</orgName>. </p>
            <p> Wrote a story for the <orgName>Globe</orgName> with reference to the opening of the new
               <placeName>faculty building</placeName>. </p>
            <p> I arrived home late. Did some studying. </p>
