My dear Mr. Ritchie

The enclosed is perhaps the best answer to your letter. Do put it in if you can — & soon — for Mrs. Crosland's sake. Otherwise, send it back that it may be on time elsewhere. — The book is really capital — a satisfaction after her “Stratagems” — with was — oh!

I can't quite make out whether your epistolary criticism on Cola is instead of the Journal only my dear Mr. Ritchie — it would delight me to watch you shed oceans of tears over my book — but don't you think if there were a little ink in them? —

I suppose I shall see the two articles — but tell me when please? Yours I have not seen — being such a wretch as not to take on the journal now. But I certainly shall begin again the next quarter.

Ever sincerely yours DMM –
