Jan January 23 rd Dear Mr. Chapman

I have corrected the Ogilvies – it is ready for 2 nd edition – are you ready for it? –

I would like just to run over the proof sheets – to be sure that my alterations are printed correctly – I have made a good many – & am satisfied that Ogilvies is now as good as any of the rest.

I have been expecting to hear from you – as you promised. For even the correcting of these second editions deserves a “consideration” from you & I am sure you will not refuse it – £600 for four standard novels has been small enough payment – when Mrs. Oliphant & most others get £400 each. – Still let bygones be bygones: as of course it was a risk – But you must be aware that it is no risk now – but that you have the copy rights copyrights in your hands indefinitely – while I have nothing –

And I feel no scruple in thus asking for what I know I cannot claim – believing that very fact would incline you to be both liberal & just –

Very sincerely yours Dinah Mulock
